Ida Homes revealed their plans to transform the historical Shoreston Hall.

The Northumberland housebuilder bought the hall and grounds between Bamburgh Seahouses earlier this year.

Northumberland County Council has received plans to renovate three buildings and create luxury apartments in the hall.

Charlie Maling Dunn, Operations Director for Ida Homes said that Shoreeston Hall is located in a privileged location with views to Bamburgh Castle, the Northumberland coast and Bamburgh Castle. The building is prominent in the landscape, and deserves sensitive restoration.

We have designed a plan to restore many original features that have been lost over time, such as stone walls surrounding the property and interior details. The homes have been built to a high standard, each with its own privacy and spacious garden areas.

Our application was to make sure that the houses were occupied by permanent residents and not holiday rentals.

Ida Homes worked with Elliott Architects, a Hexham-based firm to develop the designs.

Ben Elliott, the director of Shoreston Hall said that it was a great privilege to work with the team in bringing Shoreston Hall into residential use.

The external transformation will be subtle but significant. We have created features that are in keeping with what the original building was like.

We propose to reuse materials whenever possible, and new materials will be closely matched.

Ida Homes already made urgent repairs in the hall’s main room to preserve it and protect it against the elements. The roof will be fixed and the brickwork repointed to prevent further damage. It will be necessary to rewire the house and damp-proof it.

Five apartments would be located in the hall, including a penthouse on a rooftop terrace.

Three outbuildings would be converted into standalone houses. The Potting Shed, which is too damaged to repair, is being demolished and replaced with another building that echoes the character of the Potting Shed. The Crow’s Nest, and the Office would also be renovated.

The site will be replanted with wildflowers, hedgerows, and most of the trees that are mature. A new area near the Potting Shed has been designated where birds, bees and butterflies can thrive.

The parking would be enhanced by incorporating spaces into the design of the landscape to avoid cars blocking the hall. The 18th-century entrance gate piers, and the 19th-century railings on the eastern side of the site that are Grade II listed would be protected.

The county planning team and Mr Maling Dunn worked together to form new plans.

Ida Homes, as a Northumberland heritage builder, has an obligation to take care of the historic assets in that county. The people of the region should be supportive in this rare opportunity to update this coastal home.
