Shaun Cavalliere, a resident of Gateway Boulevard and Virginia Cavalliere, heard a boom Sunday afternnon when they opened the window to their house. All hell broke loose seconds later.
The Daily Independent published a report by Cavallieres on Monday, stating that they always open their window when there is a chance of rain to allow in that sweet scent that comes before our desert storms.
The results were much better than expected.
A large windstorm swept through their yard, destroying it. All that was in the path of this gustnado was hurled into the sky, including their kids’ swing set. It landed just a few feet away.
Shaun pointed out his front yard.
Ringtone cameras allowed the couple to film the action of the gustnado as it passed by.
Virginia said that the neighbor’s wooden garage was literally lifted up by the wind and the metal door buckled.
Shaun was walking through the front lawn when he noticed other damage. He pointed out the lattice which had broken off and flown through the air, before crashing into the side panel of the family car. He stepped on the hundreds of pomegranates, figs, and other fruits that were ripped off their branches.
Khodie Angela Cavalliere and Noah Cavalliere were the Cavallieres’ special needs kids.
Khodie said that when he looked at the wreckage of the beloved equipment he used to play on, a 11-year-old Khodie saw “that big white thing” (lattice), flying in the sky. “.
Angela said, “I was also scared when my room walls started to shake.”
“I thought I was the only one shaking when I stood on my feet. Angela was able to confirm that the shaking was coming from her when she looked at the TV.
Virginia’s Autistic kids were especially affected by this storm.
Angela had a total meltdown, and all the kids rushed to me.
This gustnado blew away their metal shed, spun it around an adjacent trailer, and destroyed the wood paneling.
Her 10-acre farm is home to 40 horses, as well other animals. The gustnado blew over a metal toilet and headed for the old stalls.
The storm picked up some of shelters, and tore off some roofs. Coffee said that the tornado looked imminent.
Coffee’s Stallion, which was in a stall, was destroyed by the storm. He was then found running about the farm, needing to be calmed down. Coffee was caught in the act of trying to catch the stallion as the roof tore off another stall.
Coffee was greeted by a neighbor who yelled to her that she should run. But she said she already had taken off when the twisted metal roof fell on top of her.
Coffee said: “All I thought about was the way that roof would decapitate my head.”
Roof snapped nearby waterline. Water fountain erupted.
Several stalls and hay bales were damaged. In the yard next door, a camper was thrown into her own yard.
The gustnado left Coffee unaffected after it took down power poles in Springer Street.
Coffee turned his hands up to show them covered with goosebumps. He choked back tears while saying, “None the animals suffered any harm.” This is a great blessing.
Home Depot donated some material to fix the toilets.
Dave Creasey (my handyman) and I, who are both getting older, need help to repair the damages. Coffee said.
It was sneaky, said Meteorologist Brian Oches from the National Weather Service of Hanford. The storm wasn’t detected on their radar, and they didn’t know it had happened.
Oches, after hearing the witness’s descriptions, thinks that it was either a tornado or an outflow of wind from a thunderstorm.
