The rescue services announced on Monday that they evacuated more than 6 000 people, including 455 dogs and cats from Punjab’s different districts in the previous 24 hours after strong river currents entered the adjacent area.

Sunday’s peak discharge of 130,000 cusecs in Sutlej was at Empress bridge, which led to flooding the towns of Weaslan Sahlan Lal De Goth. While the inhabitants and their animals were evacuated before breaches, standing crops in many areas of Sutlej had become submerged.

Kahror Tehsil of Lodhran District, situated on the other side along the river had also been affected.

In a statement released by National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA), Ganda Singhwala located along Sulemanki Headworks is currently experiencing flooding at a medium level.

It was also noted that Kasur Okara Bahawalnagar Pakpattan Vehari and Pakpattan are currently in danger.

Farooq Ahmad is the spokesperson of Rescue Punjab. He said 254 rescue boats and over 1,000 personnel were sent to areas flooded by the Sutlej.

He provided a breakdown for the number people and livestock that were saved in each district of the province during the last 24-hours. Ahmad stated:

Relief Activities

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority, (PDMA), said that floods had affected the area adjacent to the Sutlej river since 17 August.

In the districts that were affected, there are 95 medical clinics in all of the province. Twenty ambulances were ready to respond in an emergency.

“PDMA has highlighted that so far, more than 366,000 people have received medical treatment.” “Beyond that, 178 aid camps are operating in the affected districts.”

About 70,000 people affected received food cooked by volunteers and a transport system for more than 200,000.

“Preventive Medicine and Vaccination was Provided to 150,000 Cattle while 25,000 Animals Were Moved To Safer Places”, the PDMA Added.

Nabeel javed, Punjab’s Relief Commissioner, said on a separate occasion that the state would not cease its relief operations until floodwaters subsided.
