Police have arrested 154 people in total
Yesterday, the wreckage from a building that had been demolished collapsed onto scavengers. One person was killed and three others were injured.
The Guardian had reported earlier that youths were looting roofing sheets, iron rods and interlocking blocks from structures illegally demolished.
Around 11:00 am, the young men began draining concrete debris along Murtala Mohammed way in order to remove iron rods.
Ibrahim Yakub confirmed this development. He said that four people were trapped in rubbles searching for metal.
Yakub led the task force of government on demolishment of illegal buildings. According to him, three people with minor injuries were saved, and one person was unconscious, but later found dead.
Yakub warned that scavengers who enter buildings illegally and destroy them risk their lives.
The government started demolitions at night to avoid public disruption.
He regretted his decision when he saw the destruction of the house.
Kano State Police Command announced that over 154 people were arrested at different demolition sites, for theft of property and attempted theft.
