Mejia claims that after Duran hit Mejia with a stick, he began driving off, hitting his van on the way. However, he wasn’t sure if Duran was involved.
After seeing Duran lying on the floor, he called 911. Mejia, who was delivering a package at the time, called 911 and then left.
Duran was found dead on the floor by deputies when they arrived at the scene. At the scene, he was declared dead.

Mejia was driving his semi on Interstate 25 south of Colorado Springs, heading towards El Paso in Texas. Mejia, a resident of Fountain, was arrested by police.
Investigators from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office arrested Erick Mejia on suspicion of vehicular murder. In the Arapahoe County Detention Facility, he is being held on $100,000 bail.
Duran’s relatives believe that Mejia never should have been given a bond.
